Tufts Alumni Association First Generation Scholarship

Thank you for being a part of the first gen scholarship!  This specific project is closed, but you can support financial aid for first gen students year round.  Click here to give.

We need you: The Tufts University Alumni Association has an exciting opportunity to continue to make a direct impact on a student’s life. Your support will make this a success!  Two years ago, 312 alumni made a gift and we awarded a scholarship this year to Isabel Serrano-Alas, A21. Thank you!

The goal: If 225 alumni give to this crowdfunding project, TUAA will add an additional $10,000 to the scholarship that will be awarded next year to a first generation undergraduate student.

The why: To help a first generation college student, regardless of financial circumstances. The Tufts Alumni First Generation Scholarship will allow a student to focus on all that Tufts has to offer, from internships to engineering, without the constraints of financial need.

Bonus Challenge: Once we reach 225 donors, every additional 25 donors will be matched with a $1,000 gift, up to $5,000.  The Tufts Alumni Council is the governing body of the Alumni Association and thanks you for supporting this scholarship!

The Impact: In the above video, learn more about how this scholarship has impacted this years recipient, Isabel Serrano-Alas, A21 . By funding this one year scholarship again, we will deepen our impact on students and Tufts as a whole. You will receive an update on the impact of your giving to learn more about the Tufts experience you helped make possible! The scholarship is given 100% by financial need.

Why now:  This is part of our overall goal to continue to make Tufts accessible and broaden the alumni base of support. Most importantly, we want to make sure the most qualified students can attend Tufts, regardless of personal finances. Tufts fiscal year ends June 30, so time is of the essence. Imagine the difference you can make in a student’s life by contributing a gift, of any amount, today.

EVERY GIFT IS JUMBO. THANK YOU!

FAQs

Why a first generation college student scholarship?

Tufts is committed to meeting the full, demonstrated need of every admitted student. We also want to be sure Tufts is accessible to the brightest students from all backgrounds. More than 10% of the students admitted to the class of 2025 are the first generation of their families to attend college. We want to help ensure this diverse group of applicants has the financial resources necessary to attend and thrive!

What happens if we don’t hit 225 donors?

Don’t worry, we will!  But, in case we don’t hit our goal, every dollar raised will still be put towards financial aid. Your gift will still count and help a deserving student, but we need to hit 225 for the full scholarship for a first generation student.

If I already gave this year, will an additional gift to this crowdfunding project count?

Yes, it will. Our goal is to inspire alumni who have not given yet this year (July 1, 2020 – now), but all gifts made by June 30 will count. Thank you! (Can’t remember if you gave?  E-mail giving@tufts.edu)
