Thank you from MyTERN

June 11, 2021

THANK YOU once again for making a gift this past month to the Tufts University Prison Initiative of Tisch College’s: Tufts Educational Reentry Network (TERN)!

You enabled us to reach and far surpass our fundraising expectations, even transcending our stretch goal! Our network is busily planning next year, organizing mentoring trainings, sending out MyTERN applications, developing course syllabi, and continuing to build relationships extending our network. Your contributions motivate and inspire our team’s hard work.

Your help allowed us to:

1. Support the success of a second cohort of 10 people coming home from prison for nine months of programming and re-entry mentorship through MyTERN.

2. Provide training sessions this summer in effective mentorship for and by formerly incarcerated people

3. Compensate MyTERN graduates for the time that they invest in supporting their new community members going forward

4. Support MyTERN graduates taking the lead in the next year's season of the MyTERN Conversations podcast that they started.

5. And continue to expand the program for people still incarcerated at MCI-Concord and Souza Baranowski Correctional Center.

Our participants, instructor-mentors, Tufts graduate and undergraduate students, and faculty all thank you for your help as we continue this transformative journey cultivating civic impact toward increased racial/economic/gender-based justice.

We certainly could not do this without your generosity and support, which makes a direct impact on both TUPIT and TERN. You have helped us reach our goals, make the program more sustainable, and increase access to higher education for people who otherwise face many barriers to continued education and reentry support. Thank you again!

STRETCH GOAL $22,500 with 10 days left!!!

May 23, 2021

We are so moved by and grateful for your support for future MyTERN students! Thank you for helping us meet and EXCEED OUR GOAL with 10 days left! We are now STRETCHING OUR FUNDING GOAL TO $22,500!

We are excited to report that a very generous donor has offered a

100% MATCH OF ALL GIFTS

DURING THIS LAST WEEK OF THE CAMPAIGN!

Raising another $7,500 in the remaining 10 days will enable us to support this year's graduates becoming mentors for next year's MyTERN class. The mission of this program - developed in partnership with our advisors who bring the wisdom from their lived experience of incarceration - is to create an on-going sense of community that centers relationship-building as a critical survival skill. This year's graduates are extremely well prepared to help people coming out of prison adjust, survive, and thrive in the world "outside."

The funds from this STRETCH GOAL will help

1. provide training sessions this summer in effective mentorship for formerly incarcerated people

2. compensate MyTERN graduates for the time that they invest in supporting their new community members going forward

3. support MyTERN graduates taking the lead in the next year's season of the MyTERN Conversations podcast that they started, likely including even more fully the vibrant community of people with lived experience  beyond Tufts.

  • MyTERN graduate mentors and the wider community of people with lived experience of incarceration are some of the very best teachers Tufts has to offer, as many Tufts undergraduates and faculty members will attest. We are lucky to be part of this shared and coalition-based community.

Thank you for helping us to strive toward this new STRETCH GOAL of $22,500 for the remaining 10 days of the campaign! And thank you for your on-going partnership through support.
