JumboRaas: Team Trip to National Competition
Tufts JumboRaas is excited to announce that we are going to competition! We are Tufts’ only premier competitive Raas/Garba Team. Garba/Raas is a high energy dance which incorporates large movements, intricate formations, beautiful costumes, and the spinning of wooden props (dandiya). We have traveled across the country representing Tufts and spreading our love for Indian culture. From on campus shows to performing at Purdue and UPITT, our team has traveled across the nation to show everyone what Tufts JumboRaas can do.
This year we have been accepted to Blacksburg Ki Baadmashi at Virginia Tech, a national intercollegiate Raas competition. Here we will represent Tufts and compete against six other teams from across the nation. This is a huge accomplishment, as we were chosen to be one of seven teams competing from a national pool of incredible teams.
However, competing is associated with its expenses. We are reaching out to you to to help us decrease the personal contributions of each team member. All contributions will go directly to funding the team’s trip to Blacksburg, which includes registration fees, airfare, lodging, and food/transportation while we compete. We have been working incredibly hard to reach this far and we continue to put in more than ten hours of practice every week to make sure our show is the best It can be.
Every contribution you can make, regardless of size, will help our amazing team compete and have fun at our completion.
Thank you to our parents, alumni, fans, and Tufts University for their support during the year, and thank you to everyone in advance for helping us reach our goals!
