The Tufts Cheerleading team will be traveling to Daytona Beach, Florida to represent Tufts University in intercollegiate national competition for the first time in school history. The competition, National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals, will be held April 8-12.
During much of the year, our team cheers at the home football and men's and women's basketball games. This year we are excited to be able to represent Tufts in competition in a new way that showcases our school pride, as well as how far we have come as a team. This will allow us to continue our drive to become stronger student athletes. While we primarily focus on supporting Tufts University and its athletics in addition to increasing school spirit, we also recognize that collegiate cheer is large time commitment, as well as physically demanding. As they say, athletes lift weights, but cheerleaders lift other athletes. ;)
While our team receives a lot of positive moral support and guidance from athletics, we as a club sport don't receive enough funding to cover our expenses for uniforms and other necessities for cheering at basketball and football games, in addition to competition. It is important for us to be able to continue supporting other sports teams at Tufts while also continuing our competitive drive towards national competition.
We have committed to attending national competition, which means we are financially obligated to go. While we are taking many avenues for fundraising as a team, any money not raised will be an additional burden on each team member individually. If we are able to excede our goal, it will allow us to pay down part of cheer camp for the upcoming summer, reducing the cost of competition for future years.
