Filming Composer Florence Price's Chicago
This crowdfunding project has ended, but you can still support the Film and Media Studies Program here. Thank you for your continued support!
Who Are You?
We are a group of advanced production students making a film about Florence Price and Amy Beach.
Who Are They?
Florence Price and Amy Beach are two prominent female composers whose lesser known stories we wish to share in our film.
Cool! Why Do You Need to Go to Chicago?
While doing research on the two women, we found that Amy Beach’s story is deeply rooted in Boston, and the same was true for Florence Price in regards to Chicago. Since we are at Tufts, we are able to get the essence of Boston quite easily. Chicago is a little more difficult. If we want to tell Florence Price’s story fully, we need to go to the place that influenced her so much and film there.
What Will You Do in Chicago?
Good question! Samantha Ege, a renowned concert pianist from Singapore, is performing some of Price’s works in Chicago on the 7th of April and has invited us to film her concert and interview her! This would benefit our film tremendously as far as showing the legacy of Price and how her music is used and heard today. This is an extremely unique opportunity in relation to our film, but we do need your help getting there.
How Would My Support Help?
If fully funded, our entire class would be able to go to Chicago to see the concert and interview Ege. For all of us to go, between plane tickets, lodging, car rentals, and food, it costs $4610. Any donation is an important contribution toward our goal. Thank you!
